Weather Event Update: Friday 12/22 at Noon

Consultation has concluded

Greetings Neighbors -

The State of VT Emergency Operations Team held a press conference this morning to highlight concerns and discuss the impact of weather event we are experiencing. At this point, most of the power outages being reported are in the southern and central parts of the state. As of 11:30am today (Friday) we do have 500+ households serve by GMP that are currently experiencing outages. For updates on status and resoration schedule in Jericho, please refer to sites below:

Information will be made available here via FPF and through the Join in Jericho website. Fingers are crossed that impacts remain moderate. Some reminders from UJFD member and Underhill Select Board member Bob Stone:

- If you come across downed lines please call 911. Do not drive across them and stay away from them.

- Checking on your secondary heat source would be a good idea as temps will drop dramatically this evening. - - Drawing extra water and locating your flashlights are also recommended.

- Should you use a generator please make sure that it is far enough away from your home so the exhaust doesn't blow back in, and make sure that you have fresh batteries in your carbon monoxide detectors.

Our road crew will be out doing their best to maintain our roads. As temperatures drop there will be potential for black ice. Saturday's temperatures are expected to be sub zero with wind chill.

See current forecast below from National Weather Service Burlington for the rest of today through Saturday:

- Winter weather advisory, high wind warnings, flood watch.

- Potentially damaging wind gusts 50-60 mph with summits experiencing up to 100 mph. Continue to expecting widespread power outages.

- Historic wind event across western slopes of Mt Mansfield.

- High profile vehicles could be impacted.

- Flood watch – minor event. Along and south of I-89.

- Rest of the day today, rapidly falling temperatures. Beginning 4 pm sharp drop in temperatures. By 7 pm entire state at or below freezing. Slick and hazardous travel.

Looking like a good couple of days to stay put. If there are immediate emergencies or eventual need for sheltering, you will be updated here.
