Town Plan 2024

"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together" ~ African proverb

A community develops a Town Plan in order to establish a set of goals and expectations for how the community will grow and evolve over time. It sets the framework for land use and development regulations (ie. typically zoning and subdivision regulations), and forms the basis for future public and private investment.

Jericho’s current Town Plan was originally created and adopted in 2016 and amended in 2020 to include a new chapter on energy use and production. Pursuant to state statute, it will expire in 2024 and therefore needs to be reviewed, revised and adopted anew reflecting the current trends, needs, and desires of the community.

This page is being offered to help give you access to the latest information about the process to update the Jericho Town Plan, and help you find ways where you can be involved in providing your input and feedback.

Thank you for your interest, and please keep coming back to see what's new!

Town Plan Comment Page - Draft Version 3

We invite the public to offer written comments/feedback for the draft of the Town Plan. If you are leaving specific comments please include the chapter and page number. The deadline for comments on Draft version 3 is November 10th.

The public can also provide comments directly to the Selectboard at the upcoming hearing.

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.

More houses, more workers, more businesses - It all sounds good. But I haven't yet heard or seen SPECIFIC PLANNING for more kids in the schools, more wear-and-tear on roads, greater possibility of septic failures as more developments go in, risk of water contamination, risk of running out of water entirely, more traffic, more automobile accidents, more need for emergency services, more noise, less quality of life. It HAS to be possible to design for the future with small, energy-efficient homes and with the kind of foresight that takes into consideration the many and varied ramifications of expansion. I suggest everyone read this thoughtful article: https://vtdigger.org/2023/11/17/john-bossange-futures-project-fails-to-include-true-cost-of-growth-in-communities/

While I have some serious concerns, I sincerely thank each of you for all the long hours of hard work put into The Town Plan Draft Version 3

In brief a few concerns:
1) Expanding the Select Board from 3 to 5. IF yes, you need to consider fair representation and divide the Town in to Wards (or similar) so each section of our Town has fair representation.
2) You need to address infrastructure needs for the ENTIRE TOWN and not in just core "dense areas" but all of Jericho! Infrastructure is not just about walking and biking across Town! If you provide water and infrastructure for three core areas you need to address all taxpayers concerns in every part of the Town and not just provide for a few in three core areas. Any plan for an emergency water tower for any and all parts of the Town to access if needed?
3) To this date NO ONE IN JERICHO KNOWS what percentage of town residents have (by the numbers) what for a provider of water service to their residential homes! Shouldn't water be at the top of the list for this vital resource we all need?
4) There has been so far inadequate discussion on real nuts and bolts (water needs) Infrastructure! To start, you need to know what exists now in Jericho: Private Wells (how many served?) Water Coops, Neighborhood Associations (how many served?) Those served by CWD (how many served) and the same, other water entities. Maintenance costs and repair costs. Aging underground neighborhood water pipes, etc. Connecting services.
5) If you begin services for waste and sewer water in 3 core areas you MUST include a long term plan for other neighborhoods to be included and not just benefit a few living in the 3 designated core areas!
6) Please move forward the Town Recreation Committee from your proposed 5 years out or more plan to the next 1-2 years!
7) The "Jericho Climate Action Vulnerability and Resiliency Plan" sounds nice but is way too vague! Is Climate Change that immediate a concern that our Town alone must Plan for? Can plan for? How about "Jericho Emergency Disaster Plan" instead!!! Water resource and food and shelter for such an emergency?

Thank you and I hope these will lead to some serious discussions going forward.

Are you planning to use eminent domain to secure land for the wastewater treatment plants?

This is a test of the feedback tool. I think the new town plan is very well done and shows the level of commitment that volunteers can bring to town government.
