Jericho Checklist Challenge 2025

The Jericho Board of Civil Authority met on August 20th to confirm that all registered voters in Jericho are still qualified to vote in Jericho.

Using the guiding principles adopted at their May 29th 2025 meeting the Jericho Board of Civil Authority has prepared a list of voters that the BCA could not confirm still live in Jericho. As a result of the August 20th meeting, challenge letters will be sent to those voters. Letters should arrive mid-September. If a letter is addressed to someone in your household that is temporarily away at school or work, it is fine to wait until they return home for holidays or a visit. We would like to have the voter response card back before the next election, March 2026.

How to Register to Vote:

  • If you have recently moved within Vermont you can update your voter registration through the Secretary of State's Office voter registration portal or if your are newly registering to vote in Vermont
  • You can also register to vote or correct your address at the Jericho Town Clerk's Office.
  • Voter registration occurs when you apply for a Vermont Drivers license unless you opt out.

Guidelines for the Issuance of Challenge Letters

The BCA will meet in August of every odd year to review the prepared list and authorize the Town Clerk to mail a challenge letter. The list will include the reasons identified to prompt a challenge. Any member of the Board of Civil Authority can request a challenge letter to not be issued for cause. If a majority of the BCA members present agree with the exemption, a challenge letter will not be sent.

Challenge letters will be mailed by September 15th and a report will be filed with the Secretary of State’s Office to certify that Jericho is in compliance with 17 V.S.A. 2150 c, d (7)

The Town Clerk will prepare a list of voters to challenge using the following tools:

  • Undeliverable ballots from the previous November election – Review names on the envelopes of the undelivered ballots to see if they are still on the Jericho Voter Checklist the following August.

• Property Transfer Returns (PTTR) – Review PTTRs from August of the previous odd year to August of the current year for new addresses of the seller of a Jericho residence. Include adult children at the same address.

• Returned Mailings – Review returned/undeliverable mail from any town department.

• Official and Unofficial Public Records and Documents – Newspaper articles, word-of-mouth notification from another town resident, telephone directories, street directories, etc.

• Any work done by members of the BCA to attempt to contact voters personally.
