All About Beavers

The Jericho Conservation Commission invites you to learn more about the fascinating role beavers play in our ecosystem.

  • The Jericho Underhill Land Trust is hosting Vermont Land Trust ecologist, Allaire Diamond, on June 5th for a Q and A session on beavers. Stop by any time between 5:30 and 6:30 pm and Allaire will answer your questions or concerns about beavers. We will meet at the Wingate entrance on Tyler Place near the beaver pond.

  • Join Vermont Land Trust for an online event on June 24, 2025:

Join VLT at an online screening and discussion of the film “New Neighbors: the Beavers of Allen Brook”. The film investigates the recent uptick in beaver activity in the suburban town of Williston and invites a change in perspective to better appreciate one of our most misunderstood keystone species.

After showing the 29-minute film, filmmaker and Williston resident, Jim Heltz will be joined by VLT Naturalist Allaire Diamond for a discussion of themes, including the surprising details of the species’ origin, their influence on the area, and the beavers’ crucial role in the battle against climate change. There will be times for questions and answers. We hope you can join us! Register here for free event.

  • Watch a presentation by Ben Goldfarb - author of Eager: The Surprising, Secret Life of Beavers and Why They Matter - given earlier this spring with our colleagues at Friends of the Mad River (Friends of the Mad River is a watershed-scale conservation organization whose mission is stewarding healthy land, clean water, and vibrant community in central Vermont's Mad River Valley.)
