Jericho History

The goal of this page is to collect and make information accessible to anyone interested in the History of Jericho. A committee formed in the Early 2000's on the prompting of Elinor Merle, Editor of the History of Volume II, 1913 to 1916. The committee changed overtime and the History of Jericho Volume III (1963-2013), was finally published in 2021. The next History Volume should cover 2013 to 2063.

Please check back periodically as we continue to add information.

Topic: How the Roads Got Their Name

Time: Oct 24, 2023 05:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

There will be a discussion about the history of Jericho Road names in the Jericho Town Hall community room on Tuesday October 24th, 2023 at 5:30 PM. This meeting will be a hybrid format in-person as well as via zoom and is expected to last about an hour. This discussion will be similar in format to the history of Jericho schools and the history of baseball in Jericho discussions that took place in 2021. Some of the information is in the History of Jericho Volume III and some of the information is going to be presented by Paul Alexander. Paul grew up on Steeple Bush Hill and as a college student he interviewed his father Wayne about Jericho Road names. Wayne Alexander was on the initial road naming committee that was formed in the 1960's. We are grateful that MMCTV will be filming the event so that it can be archived. If you know about Smoky the cat or have a funny or serious story to share about a Jericho Road name please plan to attend.
