    Town Clerk:

The state has begun their annual rabies vaccine bait drop for wildlife. Read more here.

    Planning Commission:

The Planning Commission recently passed along a set of recommended zoning updates to the Selectboard, who is reviewing the proposed changes in August. The zoning updates aim to reduce obstacles to development in the Village growth areas, following state and regional directives.

The PC will now shift the focus to Jericho’s outlying rural areas, where protecting natural resources and working lands is the priority, while still enabling some development to occur in suitable less sensitive areas. The PC will collaborate with the Jericho Conservation Commission and regional Conservation Planners to evaluate current regulations in light of the ongoing shortage of moderately priced housing, while keeping an eye on Jericho's obligations to comply with newer VT laws to protect forest blocks and the state's goal to conserve up to 50% of Vermont's land by 2050.

A second focus for the PC this fall will be to support the Selectboard to expand the capital improvement program, to reflect longer term planning goals such as investments in better pedestrian and bicycle routes, possible development of a municipal wastewater system for Riverside, and caring for town buildings and assets. The capital program identifies projects, estimates costs, and identifies possible funding sources, typically for a 5-10 year period.

We welcome questions and comments anytime, to Chris Shaheen, Town Planner, cshaheen@jerichovt.gov
